The Fundamentals of Electrical Maintenance (Systems & components)

Course Overview:

This training package is for candidates who wish to obtain an understanding of the basic principles of electrical circuits, electrical components, safe working systems and the relevant Statutory laws and how they relate to BS7671.

Objectives:

Candidates will:

• Understand how relevant legislation applies in the workplace.
• Be able to demonstrate and understand the procedures for establishing a safeworking environment.
• Show a fundamental understanding of AC & DC supplies.
• Understand the relationship between resistance, voltage, current and power.
• Understand the relationship between series and parallel circuits.
• Understand the different forms of Isolating & switching procedures.
• Preform safe isolation procedures.
• Be able to explain the basic principle of a solenoid.
• Be able to identify the applications of where solenoids are used.
• Be able to Install 8 pin & 11 pin relays & show an understanding of how they work.
• Be able to connect online direct starters for single phase and 3 phase systems.
• Be able to connect 3phase motors in star and delta configurations.
• Be able to set overload protection for motors.
• Be able to identify different types of MCB’s, fuses and RCD’s and understand their basic operation.
• Perform basic fault diagnosis on electrical components.
• Understand the requirements for completing the inspection of electrical installations prior to their being placed into service.
